Adding CAN/OBD-II Data to Race-Keeper

Submitted by amackenzie on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 01:19.

A very quick way to get more data from your vehicle without having to install discrete sensors is to plug into the OBD (on-board diagnostics) port on your vehicle.

The data channels that are available on this port vary between manufacturers but all OBD-II ports support channels such as speed, rpm, throttle position, coolant temperature, intake manifold pressure etc.

Speed data from the OBD-II port is more accurate than GPS speed so whenever OBD-II speed is available, Race-Keeper Comparo uses OBD-II speed data for MPH.

Once you've completed a track session and loaded the session into Race-Keeper Comparo software, it's time for rapid review and comparison to allow you to get going faster.

Race-Keeper Comparo makes it very simple to review your automatically synchronized data and video. There are four screen areas showing video player, data graph, track map and outing information.

Load a comparison lap or outing and using the Comparo Delta Time calculated channel will instantly show you the corners or straights on the track where there are significant differences in lap time.

Starting and Stopping Race-Keeper Sessions

Race-Keeper can be configured to automatically (or manually) start and stop recordings.

For example you can configure the system to start recording when your vehicles starts moving, and stop recording 1 minute after the car stops after a driving session.

Auto-start and auto-stop gives you the power to turn on Race-keeper at the start of your day and not have to worry about it all day – all your driving will be automatically recorded.

The system can use a combination of any of the following triggers to control when logging starts and stops:
