Race-Keeper and the Bathurst 1000

Race-Keeper and the Bathurst 1000

The Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 is known worldwide as Australia’s biggest race and in 2015 Dean Canto, the man behind Race-Keeper dealer “Edge Motorsport”, took part in this epic race…

The Mount Panorama Circuit at Bathurst is truly punishing. It’s a combination of extremely long, extremely fast straights and a tight and twisty mid-section which alone comprises of 23 turns, one of which is called Hell Corner. It’s no suprise then that this circuit, and the 1000km endurance race that takes place there every year, are as revered within the motorsport fraternity worldwide as other gruelling endurance events like Le Mans or Sebring.

Although Race-Keeper were unable to run a HDX2 in any of the V8 Supercars that took part in the event due to the technical regulations being locked down for 2015, we did have a presence within the pitlane through our Australian dealer Edge Motorsport, who was happy to fly the flag for Race-Keeper at the event.

The man behind Edge Motorsport is racing driver Dean Canto. Dean has had a long and successful career in Australian motorsport, competing in a number of categories but is best noted for competing in the Australian V8 Supercar series. Alongside racing, Dean also runs a performance driving school & works as a driver trainer for manufacturers such as Porsche, Audi, Maserati & BMW to name a few. He’s also worked as an engineer & driver coach in the Australian Carrera Cup championship.

Dean was competing at Bathurst as co-driver to David Reynolds in the 55 Ford Falcon FG X sponsored by Bottle-O and run by the Prodrive squad.

In wet qualifying conditions they managed to put the car on pole, dedicating the result to injured Prodrive teammate Chaz Mostert who suffered a bad crash in qualifying and had to sit out the remainder of the weekend.

After an emotional race, Dean and Dave eventually brought the car home in 6th place. The engine never really had the grunt to take on eventual winners Craig Lowndes and Steve Richards, and a late race incident with Fabian Coulthard knocked them out of podium contention.

With any luck, Race-Keeper will be more than just interested spectators when this epic race returns in 2016. We are working very hard alongside our dealer network to ensure that all top level motorsport series worldwide open up their regulations and allow HD video-data loggers to be run by all the teams and drivers who are desperate to use them and find those vital few missing tenths.
